As a mom, I have very little time and even less patience to remedy laundry problems, so it was either toss out the clothes or have my children look like “rag-a-muffins.”
It was about 15 years ago when I began my quest to find ingredients to remove the stains, and that was when I discovered the toxic nature of many stain remover products.
Flashing back to my early twenties, I didn’t pay much attention to what foods I was eating — fast food or sweets — if I was hungry I ate. My lack of awareness changed the moment I knew I was “expecting” and I immediately changed my eating habits.
As I grew physically, I also grew mentally. I learned of the vast variety of fruits of veggies available, and how to prepare yummy recipes by reading specialty cookbooks and magazines. And there I began to live a healthy eating lifestyle.
Now, fast forward to where I started my story… I began concocting my own natural ingredient formulas and testing them on my childrens’ clothes. Mostly I searched through books, but when the internet became popular, websites were an amazing new resource. I learned of many ingredients I needed to buy.
A challenge I ran into was that I didn’t need to buy a whole quart or gallon of one ingredient, but rather I only needed a little of this and a little of that — it didn’t make financial sense to buy in such large quantities. Most of the time the self-made concoctions did the job, but the problem was the tremendous amount of time I spent driving to pick up the miscellaneous ingredients, and the significant amount of money spent buying them.
I knew there had to be a better, an easier way to bring my ideas to life and create my own products. This idea was tabled until 2006. I found myself thinking “I’m just going to go for it (there’s no perfect time for anything). I’m going to contact as many organic chemists that will listen to me, tell them about my formulas, experiences with toxic ingredients,” etc.…you name it I shared it and dove right into developing my own laundry products.
It was wonderful. My newly found team was just as passionate as I was in creating these healthy products. We had our minds set on creating healthy and effective laundry solutions, and then I added one little thing to the whole equation: I wanted to simplify the chore of doing laundry. Valuing the importance of laundry I set out to create a new approach to simplifying the laundry process. So that’s when the idea of little pre-measured pods popped into my head. The team kicked into high gear, re-formulating the detergent formulas into powder, which also meant we could be more green since we didn’t add un-needed water to our concentrate.
Before I knew it I had developed a few products and a whole variety are in various stages of development and testing. (I hope to release my instant stain removers by the end of 2009.)
