How to keep a toilet brush clean – it’s not a pleasant chore, we all know that, but it has to be done (if you want to keep your toilet bowl clean, that is). Toilet brushes do some of the nastiest cleaning in the house, as the average person spends 3 whole years of their life on the toilet and the average toilet uses six liters of clean water in a single flush. But those brushes need love too. Because they are full of bacteria, one may think they must annihilate this grossness with the strongest (chemical) cleaner there is, but don’t be so quick to jump on that thought – remember that you don’t want to use such harsh chemicals in your house let alone in one of its smallest rooms where ventilation might not be the best. So, here are a few tips to help keep that brush properly fresh in order to keep that bowl clean.
1. Fill the bucket halfway with very hot water.
2. Add approximately two cups of bleach alternative to the hot water.
3. Place the toilet brush into the bleach water and let it soak for at least an hour.
4. Once clean, remove and rinse with clean water.
5. Allow it to dry completely.
How To Clean Stuff specifies that this process can also be completed in the toilet bowl itself by pouring bleach into the bowl, placing the brush itself into the bowl and letting it sit for an hour or two!
Clean My Space recommends cleaning your brush once a month with a disinfectant of your choice;consider using one of our all-purpose cleaners: spray generously on the brush, let it sit, dripping wet on the edge of your bowl for approximately 10 minutes and then rinse with the hottest water you can find.
It doesn’t have to be complicated or bad for the environment – just follow the simple steps above and that useful tool you use to clean that instrument you spend so much time on will be fresh in no time! Make sure you don’t mix the cleaner with any other household cleaning product, as harmful gasses could be released making for a toxic environment. With that said, also make sure your bathroom has plenty of ventilation when cleaning and it may be a good idea to wear gloves to help protect your hands from bacteria! Now, get cleaning!
