Lipstick, foundation, mascara – makeup can be a lot of fun, but not so much so once it gets on your clothes; that's why you need to know how to remove makeup stains from clothes. I can't tell you how many times I've changed my mind about what to wear, pulled on a fresh shirt, and promptly gotten lipstick on it. Makeup, and/or cosmetics have been used for generations to cover up and are manufactured internationally with a diverse number of oils, dyes, and other forms of pigmentation that are bound to rub off on clothes.   • 4 cups of water
  • ½ tbs. of dish soap
  • 1 tbs. of white vinegar
  • White cloth

2 | How it's done

  1. 1. Wet the stain with warm water.
  2. 2. Add soap and rub in circular motions.
  3. 3. Rinse with warm water.
  4. 4. Run through the wash as normal.

3 | Stubborn Makeup Stains


For water-based makeup stains

1. Mix together 2 cups of cool water and a tablespoon of dishwashing detergent.

2. Using a clean white cloth, blot the mascara stain until it's gone.

3. Launder as usual.

For eyeliner and mascara

1. Mix together 2 cups of cool water and a tablespoon of dishwashing detergent.

3. Launder as usual.

 



For stubborn oil-based stains

1. Apply dish soap or clarifying shampoo directly to the stain.

2. Work in with warm water.

3. Launder as usual.

Time is of the essence with stains like these! Treat them as soon as possible for best results and make sure you're happy with your stain removal efforts before you throw it in the wash. Once a makeup stain has been through the washer and the dryer, the experts agree – it's set for life.
